Prague Has Now A Cinema On A Boat

With summer closing in, we are bound to see outdoor movies in parks, beaches, and rooftops in cities everywhere, but one cinema in Prague has a really unique location, which isn’t actually outdoors, instead it is on a boat and it’s open all year long.

The new Prague 80-seat movie theater is called Kinolod, which actually means cinema-boat, and it’s anchored in the Vltava river. The cinema first opened in Prague 7’s Holešovice quarter back in February and it also has a bar with seating made out of wooden palettes and a table football table. Moreover, the movie theater also doubles as a concert venue because after special film viewings the screen moves to unveil a stage where music inspired by the movie is performed.

A ticket for cinephiles to watch a film on this refurbished 1925 transshipment vessel costs around Kč130 ($5.67), so if you find yourself in Prague don’t miss out on the unique experience of watching a movie on a boat. Kinolod plays Czech movies, but you can watch some of them with English subtitles, or opt to watch an international film. Don’t forget to check on the cinema’s website what’s showing before going there.

Plus, in case you get seasick, you can still partake in the fun, as it seems Kinolod will eventually play outdoor movies next to the boat, on the left bank of the Vltava.
